Race teams who take their sponsorship search seriously fully realize they are selling advertising. The term “sponsorship” almost conjures up thoughts of some non-profit boy scout club or church group. Truth is, when it comes to selling your motorsports program to a potential business, you are competing against many other media forms, including television, radio, the internet and print.

Your are 100% correct. As a sponsor, I can confirm this is EXACTLY how we have evaluated the money we have spent on sponsoring James Swan and Mid-Am races each year.

Maybe your best statement, especially now is..... "no matter how poor the economy may be, any business has to advertise or market themselves in some way, shape or form." That is especially true now. SUCCESSFUL companies actually tend to advertise more when the economy is rough. So teams/owners/drivers should not be discouraged right now just because the economy is bad in certain areas and think nobody is willing to spend money on a race car/team. And remember... You'll never get a sponsor if you don't ask them.
