Jordan Kinser Dashes Into Bloomington Speedway Victory Lane
JORDAN KINSER DASHES INTO VICOTRY LANE IN FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND RACE DeMOSS, CUMMINGS, SMITH TAKE TRIPS TO VICTORY LANE
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Race fans were treated to fireworks in the night sky as well as fireworks on the red clay oval during Bloomington Power Sports Night on Friday, July 1, at Bloomington Speedway. The night included furious racing from four classes as well as the track’s 26th Annual Gigantic Aerial Fireworks Display.
Competing on the quarter-mile oval were the Grimes Pools and Spas Sprint Cars, the O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modfieds, the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks and the Chad’s Towing and Recovery Hornets.
On a restart just before the midpoint of the Grimes Pools and Spas Sprint Car feature, 20 year-old Chris Babcock, of Bloomfield Ind., surged into the lead and looked dialed in to dominate the remainder of the event. It was not to be however as lapped traffic caused Babcock to spin and make contact with a hard charging Dave Darland, of Lincoln Ind. It marks the second time in three events that lapped traffic has thwarted a promising run by the young driver. After the incident, Jordan Kinser, of Bedford Ind., wound up in the lead position with current Grimes Pools and Spas Sprint Car points leader Brady Short, of Bedford Ind., lurking in the second position. The restart set up a seven lap dash to the finish with Kinser holding on to get the win.
In an O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modified feature race plagued by caution periods, Clint DeMoss, of Bloomington Ind., started from the pole position and went wire to wire. DeMoss, the current O’Neal Wood Products UMP Modified points leader, set a blistering pace as he was able to lead every lap of the event. He expertly picked his way through multiple restarts as the field of 20 modifieds tangled for position behind him. Bradley Sterrett, of Bloomington Ind., started alongside DeMoss but was merely able to give chase and hang on to second in the lengthy event.
Intense battles erupted throughout the Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock feature race with every position being contested wheel to wheel. Brad Cummings, of Bedford Ind., jumped into the lead at the start of the event and put on a dominating performance while holding off fierce competitors like current Tire and Wheel Center UMP Super Stock points leader Jeremy Hines, of Seymour Ind., and hard charger Chris Hillman, of Camby Ind. After a bold three wide move to the outside relegated Hillman to the sixth position, Cummings and Hines fought side by side to the line. Cummings was able to win by a single car length.
The Chad’s Towing and Recovery Hornets took to the high banks of the red clay oval and put on a fast and clean feature. Jeremy Smith, of Bloomington Ind., led the charge to the checkered flags in a race that saw not a single caution period. An exciting battle raged for second position between points leader Travis Rodgers, of Clayton Ind., and Matt Jacobs, of Bloomington Ind., with Rodgers taking the spot at the line.
The next scheduled night of racing at Bloomington Speedway is Friday, July 8. The American Modified Series will visit the speedway along with the Tire & Wheel Center UMP Super Stocks, the Chad’s Towing and Recovery Hornets and UMP Bomber cars. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., hot laps start at 6:30 p.m. with racing getting under way at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $12 with children 12 and under FREE with a paying adult.
