AMERICAN SPEED ASSOCIATION MIDWEST TOUR ANNOUNCES THE NEW ASA MIDWEST SPORTSMAN TOUR
AMERICAN SPEED ASSOCIATION MIDWEST TOUR ANNOUNCES THE NEW ASA MIDWEST SPORTSMAN TOUR
2010 Rules Package (PDF) (Word Doc) - 2010 Driver Registration
By: Kevin Ramsell
BURLINGTON, WI (Friday, October 23, 2009) – Tim Olson and Steve Einhaus, owners of the American Speed Association Midwest Tour Super Late Model Series has announced the formation of the new American Speed Association Midwest Sportsman Tour. The first touring division for the popular Area Sportsman division styles of cars that race weekly at your favorite local track.
“Tim and I were talking with some competitors at one of our events and a group of Area Sportsman drivers cornered us and asked how we can help develop a traveling division for their style cars,” Einhaus, ASAMT Vice-president said. “It’s a division that seems to get overlooked and there are many future and current stars that race in this type of car. Many times it’s because of lack of funding and they are doing everything they can to keep their racing career alive.”

As I read the rules, you are correct that this is not a place for Mid Ams to run.

I think this is a great opportunity for a LOT of guys without fat pocketbooks to go racing. I'll bet there will be as many cars every race not making the show, as there will be cars that do. Should be some great competition

Which is the way it should be Dave. There already is a traveling series for the Mid-Am cars. This is for a different style of car, right, not meant to be another Mid-Am traveling series. I can't wait to go to one of these races. I think the racing will be superior to what we will see from the Super Late guys.

I don't see where you thought that Mike. I read that if you have a 108"WB bodied car, you are required to run a metric chassis because they have a rule against shortening a frame. It does not say you can't run a full size car that I could see. Maybe the wording on the this rule may need some work.

I love how inclusive the rules are for all local divisions. I agree their are some minor contridictions that will need to be adressed. But we can't get too hung up on the rules and miss this oppertunity. I along with many of local drivers have been waiting for something like this for years.

I have to applaud ASA midwest for this!! as I read it if your legal and run at a local track in this class you will be made to fit in. they are even allowing Hobbystocks, thunderstocks and roadrunners!! the ONLY thing i wasn't excited about is having to buy special tires to run the series as I may only run 2 or three of these shows a year. as long as they don't change tires after a year I wouldnt be overly upset ill just save em for the next year.

It looks like a great thing, but my concern is how much are the ASA rules going to apply to local tracks rules like the Slinger Thunder stocks? They can weigh less, but they would need more motor to compete am I correct?

when putting together a show like this, where pretty much anyone can play even including hobby stocks its obvious that the lower class cars might not be on the same level. I really don't think the slinger cars will be at a huge disadvantage other than not having screw jacks it will take a bit more to tune. i think they are closer in motor to most sportsman than you might think. so are many of the better hobby stock cars.
